English Toffe

1 lb. butter
½ cup water
¼ cup corn syrup
2½ cups sugar
2 milk chocolate bars (optional)
ground almonds (optional)

Combine butter, syrup, sugar, and water in heavy saucepan. Cook until steam puffs out or mixture turns dark golden color. Pour onto buttered cookie sheet. Break chocolate bars on top of hot candy and spread to cover. Sprinkle with ground almonds. Cool and break into bits.
