bulb onion or white of green onion, carrot, bean sprouts, mushrooms, fish cakes, beaten egg (optional)
Boil water. Mix miso paste with a small amount of hot water to dissolve. (Use the amount of miso paste suggested on the package label.) Add water or miso to taste. Cut soft tofu into 1 cm. Cubes. Let simmer for several minutes. Chop green onion (green parts only). Take off heat and add onion just before serving. For heartier miso, add bulb onion or white of green onion, carrot, bean sprouts, mushrooms, fish cakes, beaten egg (as for egg drop soup).
