Aunt S____'s Toffe Bars (Peanut Butter & Chocolate)

½ cup peanut butter
½ cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour, sifted
1/4 tsp salt
Chocolate mixture:
½ cup peanut butter
1 cup chocolate chips
Mixed well in double boiler.

Cream together peanut butter and butter. Add brown sugar and beat until fluffy. Then add egg and vanilla. Sift together flour and salt. Add and mix well. Spread dough on ungreased cookie sheet (about 14x17") and bake 20 minutes. While baking, make chocolate mixture. After out of oven, spread with chocolate mixture and cut into diamonds while still warm.
